Thieves prise open cash machine in ‘brazen attack’ at Co-op store

Thieves prised open a cash machine and stole money from it in a ‘brazen attack’ at a Co-op in south Manchester.

The shop on Barlow Moor Road in Chorlton was targeted by thieves at around 3am on Thursday, August 13.

Several men attacked the front of the cash machine at the store, then broke in through the shop’s side shutters.

They fled the scene in a car after stealing money from the ATM.

Police said they are believed to have headed in the direction of Hardy Lane.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information about the robbery to come forward, particularly those who may have dash cam footage of the car that fled the scene.

Detective Inspector, John Robb of GMP’s City of Manchester CID said: “This was a brazen attack in which a number of men have caused significant damage to the property.

“We are appealing to anyone in the area who may have witnessed this robbery to come forward and assist police with their enquiries. 

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have information or dash cam footage of the vehicle that the offenders used to flee the scene in.

“Were you in the area at the time? Do you know the make and model of the vehicle they used? ”
