All we know right now is that Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor is not interested in adding Josh Rosen.
After that, it’s anyone’s guess as to who they might add. Here we’ll list some potential names.
In the video, Dadio and John talked about the following cornerbacks that could replace Trae Waynes on the active roster when Waynes goes on the Reserve/Injured list:
- Quenton Meeks, CB — After he surprisingly went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, Meeks signed as a college free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meeks spent last year with the Los Angeles Chargers. He has great size (6-2, 197 pounds) and broke up 15 passes his last two years at Stanford. Unfortunately, he may not have the fluid hips required to play corner in the NFL nor the size to move to safety.
- Madre Harper, CB — A college free agent of the Las Vegas Raiders back in May, Harper faced an uphill battle trying to make the roster, as the Raiders drafted two corners this year, Damon Arnette (first round) and Amik Robertson (fourth). Last year at Southern Illinois, he ranked 17th in the nation with 12 pass break-ups, was sixth on the team in tackles with 42, and intercepted two passes. He also ran an impressive 4.43 in the 40-yard dash after playing in this year’s Senior Bowl.
- Javelin Guidry, CB — The second-fastest player from this year’s NFL Combine, Guidry signed as a college free agent with the New York Jets this Spring. Guidry has great speed and excels in man coverage, as he’s able to shadow receivers. He is a little smaller, though (5-9, 188 pounds) and could struggle against the run. Still, his blazing 4.29 40-yard dash from the combine could make him intriguing.
These three are far from the only notable players soon to be available on the waiver wire. Here are some others for the Bengals to consider claiming:
- Sidney Jones, CB — Another cornerback, because why not? Jones is the most notable defensive back available due to draft status. He was a second-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, but he may’ve been a first-round pick had he not torn his achilles at his pro day. After spending three years in Philadelphia, the Jones we saw pre-injury never really returned, but it may be worth giving him a shot.
- Prince Tega Wanogho, OT — A sixth-round pick of the Eagles this year, Tega Wanogho was originally tabbed as a Day 2 prospect. The former Auburn Tiger impressed scouts enough to the point where he was invited to the Senior Bowl. Unfortunately, a knee injury (that he played through during his 2019 season) knocked him down draft boards and he lasted until the middle of Day 3. Now after being cut by the Eagles, he could use a year to fully recover and get back to form.
Derrek Tuszka, LB — Had the Denver Broncos not made Tuszka their seventh-round pick in this year’s draft, the Bengals might’ve signed him as a college free agent. Cincinnati held a virtual meeting with the former North Dakota State edge rusher this past Spring. After trading for Christian Covington, why not go after another castoff from Denver’s defensive front?
