Daniel Farke feels he has had the backing to get Norwich City into the Championship promotion mix.
Jordan Hugill was the 10th summer arrival in recent days, as Farke and sporting director Stuart Webber deliver on their pledge to overhaul a squad relegated from the Premier League.
The ex-West Ham striker could make his debut in Wednesday’s latest pre-season German tour friendly against Dynamo Dresden.
Fellow new boy Kieran Dowell impressed in Monday’s 3-0 win over SC Verl, and Farke can call on the services of Tottenham loanee Oliver Skipp and under-21 internationals Jacob Sorensen and Przemyslaw Placheta among his new intake.
City also rejected Liverpool’s paltry offer for Jamal Lewis, with none of the Canaries’ best talent expected to leave on the cheap.
“I would say more or less that is it. But it is not the case we have brought in these players to allow others to leave. I don’t see that at all,” said Farke. “I hope we don’t get any crazy offers for our players.
“We know how this business works. If someone comes and offers us £50m for Max Aarons then you never know. But we don’t expect this or want this.
“I wouldn’t say we have increased the frontline numbers too much.
“Josip (Drmic) is not in our plans, and we have now brought a striker in for him. We have also decided to go without Tom Trybull and Moritz Leitner but Jacob and Oliver have joined us. With an injury to Sam Byram we needed a full-back option with Xavi Quintilla.
“Maybe you could say Placheta is an additional number, because we felt we lacked some pace on the wings. We missed that when Onel (Hernandez) was injured. We have 46 games in a shorter period of time, so to increase the numbers was important.”
Farke cautions City’s summer recruitment had to be mindful about the longer-term planning.
“Most of the younger lads come from a lower level. We can’t expect all of those young lads to be proper options this season,” he said. “Someone like Bali Mumba was not really playing for Sunderland. We have them with us out here to see how quickly they can help us.
“But you cannot take Sam McCallum, for instance, and say after one week with us he can replace Jamal Lewis.”
